![]() ![]() Click the arrow to the left of a folder (or double-click the folder) to expand or collapse it. Click a folder to select it and view its contents in the right pane. To take a quick screenshot of the active window, use the keyboard shortcut Alt + PrtScn. Yours may show additional categories, depending on what other services-like Dropbox-you have installed. It shows Quick Access items you've pinned, as well as folder trees divided up into top-level categories like OneDrive, This PC, Network, and Homegroup. The Navigation pane appears to the left of your File Explorer window by default. If the path you type does not exist, you are prompted to confirm that you want to create a new folder. In the Target box, type the new path to the My Documents folder, or click Move to browse to the folder and if needed, create a new My Documents folder. ![]() This is my preferred view, and what I want to see. In this example, click the View tab and then click Details. Begin by changing the view to what you want it to be. If you've been using Windows for a while, most of this stuff will be old hat to you, but you never know what new tricks you might pick up. And as bonus, once you configure these view settings to your liking, you can apply most of them to other folder windows automatically using Windows' five special folder templates. To turn off file grouping feature: Open a folder that is Grouping by/sorting using week and month. This ‘Group by’ option isn’t new in Windows 10 1903. Someone at Microsoft just managed to apply their default folder setting to everyone that installs the update. The folder layout will go back to looking like it did before you updated to 1903. That will remove the time-based grouping from the Downloads folder. If you use the method you were using to set your preferred view, for a folder that has a type General Items, then when you create a new folder, that should automatically inherit your preferred view. Here’s how: Head to the Windows Settings, click on Systems, and select Storage. From the context menu, go to Group by> (none). On the Open With screen, select the default app for the file type. Browse through the registered file types until you locate the file extension you want to manage. ![]() Still, you can customize your folder views in a number of ways to make sorting through all your files easier. You can also use the Windows settings to easily change the default location for folders and files in Windows 11. At the bottom of the window, select Folder Options. People have always complained about the lack of advanced features in Windows 8 and 10's File Explorer and, to be fair, it would be really nice to see things like tabs and split views for more easily managing files. ![]()
